I was recently selected as one of Baltimore Magazine’s "Top Singles" in their February 2010 issue. It has been a very exciting experience from the beginning until now.
I was nominated back in September by my coworker, Stefen Lovelace. At first, I was a little hesitant, not knowing what would come of this or if I would even receive it. Low and behold, a couple months later, I received an email letting me know that I was nominated, but had to fill out a questionnaire first before being selected. A couple of weeks later, one more email popped up in my Inbox, informing me that I was one of the singles. I was excited and nervous...unable to know what to expect.
A photo shoot came next. It took me almost two weeks to find the perfect outfit…shopping, stressing and buying everything in sight, before finally narrowing it down and picking an outfit that was all “me.” The shoot went very well where I met some of the editors of the magazine and a fellow top single…with who I instantly clicked with. We also learned that day that we were one out of 500 applicants who were nominated. WOW…that put a smile on my face!
Then…the waiting began. Waiting and wondering of how I would look…what people would say…would I meet anyone?
The week of January 18, the magazine was mailed to subscribers and select newstands. I RAN to the Whole Foods in Harbor East downtown and grabbed three copies. I was nervously going through the pages…wondering what the photo/write up would look like. I got to my page and was surprised; it turned out fantastic! My photo looked great and my write-up told my story perfectly.
As of today it is on newsstands and is currently online at BaltimoreMagazine.net. I have been receiving wonderful feedback from friends and family on the piece and everyone has been very supportive.
So in the end, will I finally meet my Prince Charming!? Who knows…but this was an amazing experience for me to be involved with and I'll enjoy being a local celebrity for awhile!
